Hello fellow ED 401 classmates. My Web 2.0 tool is the newspaper clipping generator. The website http://www.fodey.com takes you automatically to a newspaper generator. No password or user name is required to use this tool. There are more options for generators to the side of the screeen such as a clapper board, talking squirrels, talking cats, ninja text, and talking flowers.I also included an example of the other animation that could be created to the right of the newspaper clipping. I chose the talking cat because I like cats and I made it say some silly things in a text box. This website is very easy to use and to make your own generated image or animation. Depending on how long your story is for your newspaper, this would take less than ten minutes to make and generate. I think that the newspaper generator is the most useful to use in a class. I would probably use this tool in a English class to demonstrate how journaling would work for writing for a newspaper.

When you first enter the website, there is a sample of a newspaper clipping and there are four fields that you have to fill in.
1.The first thing you would do is write what you want the name of your newspaper to be under the "Name of the newspaper" field.
2.Next you write whatever date you want the story of your newspaper to happen under the "Date" field.
3.After that you put in the title of your headline in the "Headline" field.
4.In the last field, you begin to write your story that will be in the newspaper clipping.
5.After you write your story, you click the "Generate!" button and that will automatically create your newspaper clipping.
6.The last step is to click the download your image link to download the image to your computer. The website does not save it for you because it erases whenever you leave the website.

The newspaper clipping that I made is about a 4th grade class that went on a field trip to the St.Louis zoo. I made a story about a class because I can picture a student writing about their experience about whatever class field trip that they went on. I made the story 3 paragraphs long and I added dialouge like a real newspaper does. I would want students looking at real newspapers to see how stories are written and to use as a reference when they make their own news stories.

There are several things that I do not like about this web tool. First, the newspaper clipping looks sloppy and the words are spaced differently from each other so that the newspaper columns looked justified but it looks silly with huge gaps in between certain words. I also wish that I could add images to my newspaper clipping and see the complete newspaper instead of a small section that looks like its cut off. Also, when I was writing the story, it would not let me indent when I wanted to start a new paragraph, so it is not accurate when it comes to using correct grammer. This tool basically ignores making your newspaper looking nice.

I would not recommend this tool for a teacher because I know that there are better tools for making newspapers stories. Even though this tool is very easy to use and follow, it does not look nice and I think the students could really benefit from this acitivty if they used a better newspaper generator on the internet. This tool could be used by any grade because of how easy it is to use.
